Parts of the town and their planning
In 1933 the first building plan of the town Ogre was accepted, territory of Ogre was 8 square kilometres, number of building plots was increased up to 720, almost 2000 people lived there constantly, more than 3500 people arrived seasonally to visit the health resort.
The critical point in the development of the town was the decision to tranform Ogre into an industrial center after World War II. In 1965 building of knitwear factory began, during 70's industrial area at he eastern border of the town was created.
Population incleased rapidly. Many historical cottages of pre-war period were destroyed to build standarized apartmenthouses instead. This reduced typical architecture of Ogre. And still, between nine-story buildings in Jaunogre (New Ogre - part of Ogre) some cottages from 30's remain.
Nowadays the main parts of the town -Jaunogre and Ogre - are situated on the
right bank of the river, the smallest part - Parogre - on the left. All parts
of the town are linked by three bridges.
